Sutton Staithe Hotel Pool Team Information Pages.
Sutton Staithe Hotel after winning the Stalham & District League comfortably in 2005/06 moved back into the North East Norfolk League. The first season in Division 3 proved a little too easy with the league and cup won without deafeat. Last season was successful also winning Division 2 by a huge margin. Division 1 is now the target and there is also added spice with the creation of a second team at the Hotel who will be anxious to win or certainly be near to winning Division 3 in their first season.

Sutton Staithe Hotel Last Years Results. Latest News From The Sutton Staithe Team.

(Added 09/05/09) Sutton Staithe 'A' 6 v 3 White Swan 'B' (Challenge Cup Final)
An interesting Cup Final with the winners of Division 2 crossing swords with the winners of Division 1. The start from the Staithe was match winning. Rob Bentley wins the first, Keith the second, Moose the third and Daile the fourth. Del dropped the fifth and the match sat at 4v1 and the future looked black for the White Swan which indeed it was. The 'A' team very comfortably on reflection secured the League and Cup double. Other finals night Staithe interest included Keith Clouting beating Carl Allen 3v2 in the singles Final and Del and Moose losing 3v2 in the final of the doubles. Mark Forrester collected Division 3 Player of the Year and Moose the same award for Division 1.

(Added 01/05/09) Sutton Staithe 'A' 8 v 3 Sutton Staithe 'B' (Challenge Cup Semi 2nd Leg)
A difficult task lay ahead for the 'B' team and a good start was what was needed and that is what they got. However from there on things slid badly as the teamp slumped to 6v1 down and the dream was over. The final result 8v3 to the 'A' team who will progress to meet the White Swan 'B' winners of Division 2 in the final. The Cup run for the 'B' team is memorable when you consider the quality of teams they beat along the way.

(Added 15/03/09) Sutton Staithe 'B' 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'A'(Challenge Cup Semi 1st Leg)
The long awaited semi final kicked off with a Friday night special at the shrine and what a start! 'B' team captain Mark Forrester treated the gathered with a clearance from the break leaving Scandles crying in his Grolsch. Super start! Cue the wheels, the wheels that fall off. Carl Allen, 2nd frame had a super chance to kill the Moose, tripped, fell, failed and lost. Suddenly the 'B' team found themselves 6v1 down after a 7th frame revenge on Mark Forrester by Scandles. The tie was all but dead then a fight back of note. Jim, Carl, Josh all won taking the tie to 6v4. A crucial final frame between Mark Forrester and Keith Clouting concluding the evening. Keith Clouting winning taking the result to 7v4 when 6v5 could have been oh so closer for the 'B' team. Shot worth a mention Keith Cloutings full length roll up against Josh Smith when he looked totally doomed. Touch of old boy class! The numbers for the record. 'B' team, Mark one from three, Carl, Jim & Josh all one from two and Matt two blanks from two. The 'A' team, two from two from Moose and Keith Clouting. One from two for Rob, Del and Scandles. One defeat from one for Daile Tailor. The tie looks certainly in the hands of the 'A' team but strange things happen, although that last frame should it have gone the other way to make it 6v5 would have asked many more questions...

(Added 05/03/09) Walcott Lighthouse 'A' 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'B'
(Added 05/03/09) Melbourne Club 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'A'

With the 'B' team knowing they had secured victory of division 3 with last weeks performance they decided to field a slightly weakened team. With Captain Pinty being rested, Carl sleep deprived and still in recovery from the night before the team hit the bar! Blind Moggy brought in on a short term loan deal, was denied his first victory and lost on a technicality despite several reminders to nominate when potting the black! Half time feast and the team are 3 - 2 down. With an injection of alcohol fuelled concentration the team pull it together and secured a narrow victory winning the match 6 - 5. Scores on the doors: Jim 2 from 2, Matt 2 from 3, Carl and Josh both lagging with 1 from 2 respectively and bringing up the rear with 0 from 2 Blind Moggy (permanent transfer rejected). With the team still enjoying the taste of league victory the main topic of conversation was of the up and coming grudge match against the 'A' team in the Cup. (Report – Josh Smith).
The 'A' team travelled to and were challenged to a good match by the Melbourne Club. After starting well and finding themselves 4v1 up the team slid all the way back to 5v5 before Daile Taylor won the final frame of the night. The numbers to follow after confirmation.....

(Added 25/02/09) Sutton Staithe 'B' 10 v 1 Feathers NW
(Added 25/02/09) Sutton Staithe 'A' 7 v 4 Coltishall Railway

Pressure off for all concerned, barring disasters and it showed on a relaxed attitude evening at the shrine. The Feathers, considered useful walked onto, like other teams before them a nightmare. First frame, El Pinty bidding to win his remaining couple of frames to take league player of the year took no chances in defeat and prompty executed his opponent and eight balled him off the snap. Cue the slaughter, not a nice place to be when a Staithe team is in this sort of mood. From second to tenth frame pain, in large doses. Confidence high and no-one wanted to miss out on stats points. Another great clearance from Mark is his second summed it all up. The numbers, two from two Pinty, Carl & Jim. Two from three for Matt and one from two for Josh.
The 'A' team were far from as clinical and as so many times this year stalled, started, stalled and then fell over the line. No great performances but enough from all to secure the league title goes to Sutton. The stats, three from three for skipping Moose, two from two for Rob, one from two for Keith and Alex. Del nought from one frame but will be seeing more action in the near future as Alex & Randles become unavailable. Finally nought from one for Randles shortly undertaking a world record bid for quickest time across America in an automobile!!

(Added 19/02/09) Sutton Staithe 'B' 5 v 6 Buxton Old Crown 'B'
(Added 19/02/09) Buxton Old Crown 'A' 1 v 10 Sutton Staithe 'A'

The top two teams from Divisions 1 & 3 met with issues to be resolved. The 'A' team after recent bad results depserately needed a win to ensure the title does not slip away and win they most certainly did. Following a very very dubious decision in the first frame Moose lost. Alarm bells rang and a response was needed. The response was fantastic, the side taking the next ten frames to all but guarantee the League title. Everyone contributed and everyone played well, unusual in recent times. For the record one from two for Moose, two from two for Del, Keith, Chris and shortly to be departing on loan abroad Alex Davies. Rob Bentley won the last frame with a very very tidy black in the last. A black that summed up the effort and performance of the squad on the night.
Meanwhile at the Staithe the 'B' team needed to avoid a heavy defeat to also virtually guarantee their league title. The result on the night a 6v5 defeat, the first for the team in the league. Unfortunate yes, but not a disaster. Mark Forrester won his first frame and went on to win two from three. Two more wins will guarantee him player of the year across all the leagues. Dont mess up now boy! Aside from him a poor night for Carl the Gimp losing two from two as did Jim. Josh improved his averages and reacted well to last weeks horror black to win two from two and push himself up the averages list. Matt won one from two frames. Attention will soon be drawn to the pending Cup Semi-Final. Last week the bookmakers fancied an upset with the 'B' team looking good and the 'A' looking like crippled retards. A week is a long time though and after these results maybe the form 'A' team will be back favourites.

(Added 16/02/09) Sutton Staithe 'A' 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'A'
(Added 16/02/09) Sutton Staithe 'B' 7 v 4 Suffield Arms

A strange evenings pool with both teams not producing top form. The 'A' were below par and proceeded to lose their third game of the season which puts the Division 1 title back up for grabs. Victory in the next game against second place Black Lion 'A' away, now essential and far from easy. The numbers, one from two for Alex, Moose, Randles & Del. Rob Bentley also lost his only frame of the evening. Another poor performance from all.
The 'B' team also began rather shakely finding themselves 3v2 up. However from there they moved forwards to win 7v4 and provided they avoid disaster against second place Black Lion 'B' next week probably secured the league title. The highlight, or lowlight an absolutely criminal shot from Josh the 'Doubler'. A shot with a black hung over a pocket and wack! How could you screw the white in the middle? Lunacy. The figures for the night. Two from two again from skipper Pinty, one from two for Carl & Jim. Josh zero from two and Matt two from three. Not a fantastic performance but adequate.

(Added 04/02/09) Victoria Bar 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'A' (Cup Quarter Final - 2nd Leg)
(Added 04/02/09) Buxton Old Crown 'B' 2 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'B' (Cup Quarter Final - 2nd Leg)

Keeping the dream alive the 'A' progressed to the Semi-Finals save an early scare losing the 1st two frames. A good clearance from Rob Bentley in the 3rd kicked the side off and from then on there was only one outcome. Points of note were a super last ball down a cushion from Del and similarly a superb double for Alex Davies.
Meanwhile....
Roving Reporter Randles went on tour with the B team on Tuesday to witness the second leg of the cup, the team began the night at 6-5 down after a poor showing in the first leg, knowing an improvement was necessary, indeed expected. The night started with Carl the Daily Dumb (CDD) soaking himself outside in a pond sized puddle. The match began with skippa Mark winning the first frame afte some dubious early slashes, CDD won frame 2 comfy making it 7-6 up. Matt the unshaven then wheeled out a great run of pots to get down to the black and proceeded to miss it by a barn door, which is unfair on the barn door, losing the frame after a number of cheesy snookers by the opposition. Jim n Josh won well making it 9-7. Mark n CDD win again (Mark having very nearly been 7 balled) with the only drama being identifying the suspicious looking sausage/not sausage sandwiches, putting the team on the verge at 11-7, hairy McMatt then has ano ther run in with said barn door n loses, giving brother Jim the biscuits by winning the 9th frame of the night for a score 12-8. Mark 2/2. CDD 2/2. Jim 2/2. Matt 0/2. Doublin Josh 1/1. Roll on Judgement Day (semis) Cue Terminator theme tune. The End.

(Added 28/01/09) Sutton Staithe 'A' 8 v 3 Victoria Bar (Cup Quarter Final - 1st Leg)
(Added 28/01/09) Sutton Staithe 'B' 5 v 6 Buxton Old Crown 'B' (Cup Quarter Final - 1st Leg)

Quarter final night and two fascinating ties with the winners to play each other. On the one hand the top two in Division 3 met and on the other top of division one against a good Victoria Bar side. Prizes on offer!
From the kick off both teams went a frame down. Skipper Forrester missing a black that he was to say the least not pleased about sent the 'B' team one down whilst Alex drew a blank for the 'A' team. The response from both sides was good. Two frames later both sides led 3v1.
The 'A' then moved on strongly winning the next six followed by two final frame defeats. A very healthy 8v3 lead should be sufficient for progression. The numbers were two from two for Del and lucky Randles. One from one for Moose and one from two for Keith Clouting, Alex Davies and Rob Bentley who ended his unbeaten run. After last weeks shambles a good result.
The drama was to be on the other table in a big way! The 2v1 lead soon melted and successive defeats for Matt, Josh, Jim & Carl sent the team on a crash course to 5v2 down! All four players having opportunities to take frames but failing, in some case poorly.
Then came the moment that will be remembered if the team make it to the next round! Matt despite several opportunities to take the 7th frame finally wobbled the black over the hole. Disaster for the Crown! A miscue and the frame went to home team. The battle was then on and it looked likely that the Staithe may have turned. However, not to be. At 5v4 down Josh played certainly one of the best blacks seen for a number of years potting from a rude angle. The twist unfortunately a cannon in the face of a yellow with the white to pot the yellow. Final frame and Mark Forrester also looked certain to be defeated but once again the Crown failed to take the advantage.
The 6v5 defeat first for the team could have been worse. The side never got fully going but a one frame lead in the second leg is easily turned and an all Staithe semi could still beckon.'

(Added 25/01/09) White Swan 'A' 6 v 5 Sutton Staithe 'A'
Quite simply the worst performance from a Staithe team in years! The defensive would claim the table was awful and the balls were not round and they would probably be quite correct. However the display was pathetic and the team know it. The stats for the record two from two for Rob Bentley continuing a great unbeaten run. After a shakey start probably in part responsible to a change of rules was probably the man of the night. Alex took two from three and could also hold his hand up and claim to have done his bit. One loss for Del & Moose, both shabby. An out of form Keith Clouting lost both his frames and Chris Randles was below par with one from two. A night to forget as the team was for the second time this season defeated by the team at the bottom of the table!

(Added 16/01/09) Suffield Arms 3 v 8 Sutton Staithe 'B'
With an assembled rabble including members of the 'A' team, travelling Swedes and freaks with big noses the 'B' team travelled to league new-comers the Suffield Arms. Skipper Mark won the first and things slid from there. Half time sandwiches and the side were 3-2 down! The cheese & onion offerings taisted sour at the prospect of defeat. Belly full Mark resumed and took the 6th frame to level things. From there the side never looked back cutting through the remaining frames with precision to win 8v3. Mention must be made the Suffield Arms looked a tidy outfit. The numbers. Three from three for Mark Forrester, two from two for Matt whilst the rest took one from two.

(Added 07/01/09) Sutton Staithe 'B' 10 v 1 Jolly Farmers 'B'
A bleak winter night for the Farmers to travel to the Staithe and they left not particularly Jolly after a big defeat. Without captain Mark Forrester the team shot there way to a super 10v1 win. Two frames from two for the usual faces, and two from two from a transfer window signing from nowhere. The one they call the "Pun", little known before an explosive debut. The only frame was lost by Carl Allen who won two from three. Next stop Suffield Arms, rumoured to be a reasonable outfit in their first season while the 'A' team kick off the new year campaign at home to the Fishing Boat.

(Added 24/12/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 8 v 3 Black SWan 'B'
Running well at the top end of Division 1 the Black Swan 'B' made the festive journey to Sutton for yuletide battle. No bells here though. A quality eight ball from the break from Moosey kicked things off. Frames from Del Gooch and Keith Clouting took the side to 3v0 before Daile Taylor lost after two weeks of improvement. Rob Bentley and Moosey took the next two to ease nerves before Chris Randles and Keith Clouting both lost. Final frames from Del Good, Rob Bentley and Chris Randles secured a very satisfactory result. For reference, two from two for Moose, Rob Bentley and Del Gooch, one from two the rest and nought from one for Daile Tailor.

(Added 17/12/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 8 v 3 Vernon Arms
(Added 17/12/08) Sutton Staithe 'B' 9 v 2 Walcott Lighthouse 'B'
Normal league service was resumed by both sides. The 'A' team were exceptionally lucky in the first four frames but rode it to take control in the second half to run out 8v3 winners. Highlight probably Daile Taylor's black ball, snookered, white off top cushion, full length to pot the black. Nice, very nice. The frame being Daile Taylor's fourth straight win in two weeks. Rob Bentley also won his frame moving him forwards also. Desperation for Del and one from two from Randles and Keith Clouting. Moosey took two from two again to remain top of the pile.
The 'B' team simply over ran Walcott Lighthouse. Two from two for Mark Forrester and Carl Allen. Carl Allen playing a shot to develop the black which was quite beautiful. Josh the Doubler could only raise one from two as did Matt "Road Runner" Woolston. Jim Woolston the critics man of the match playing steady and confidently to win all three of his frames. The Division 3 title appears to be just over the horizon, cup ambitions also seem high but big hurdles await.

(Added 11/12/08) Black Swan 'A' 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'A' (Cup 2nd Leg)
(Added 11/12/08) Sutton Staithe 'B' 4 v 4 Black Swan 'B'(Cup 2nd Leg)
Both sides looked to get the job done on a bleak wet Tuesday evening and that was completed without drama. The 'A' team went behind but recovered to win 7v4 with two from two frames for both Daile Tailor and Rob Bentley replacing the absent (possibly dropped) Randles and Alex. Moosey Millward obliged winning three from three whilst both Del & Keith both feeling unwell were sickened further by two defeats from two.
The 'B' team with the more difficult job checked into the Quarter Finals playing only the frames required with a result of 4v4. Mark Forrester lost his only frame of the night while Carl Allen won one from two as did Matt, Josh and Jim.
The rewards for efforts are an interesting tie for the 'B' team against Buxton Crown 'B' who the side have already played, narrowly winning 6v5 away in the league. A far from easy tie! The 'A' team however will wait to discover whether they will meet the Jolly Farmers 'A' or the Victoria Bar. Prizes for wins in these, places in the last four and a huge 'A' v 'B' derby match in March!

(Added 03/12/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 9 v 2 Black Swan 'A' (Cup 1st Leg)
(Added 03/12/08) Black Swan 'B' 3 v 8 Sutton Staithe 'B' (Cup 1st Leg)

Sutton 'A' broke the back of their cup tie with the Black Swan 'A' with some ease. The team rushed to 6v0 up and all the side looked comfortable. Second half of the match Matthew Holgate played his first match of the season, promptly lost. Rob Bentley had a run out and won his frame. Aside from them, Chris Randles won two from two looking pretty good. Keith Clouting slightly fortunate also pitched in two from two and Del Gooch also matched that. Alex Davies took one win from his two frames and Moosey won one from one, still not 100% with back pain. The away trip to the Black Swan for the side now looks a pleasant run out and Chris Randles will be rested. Daile Taylor will be expected to come back into the side.
Sutton 'B' faced without doubt their biggest challenge to date. A hugely difficult away visit to the Black Swan 'B', running 2nd in Division one with a 'difficult' table thrown into the bargain also. A good result would be any win. The match began exactly like that with the team finding themselves 3v2 up after the 1st five. The 2nd half of the match turned. A super black from Josh 'the double' Smith one of the memorable moments as he went on to win one from his two frames. Carl weighed in with a gigantic three from three whilst the brothers grim Jim and Matt twinned out with two from two each. Skipper Mark Forrester, ill and not 100% lost both his games. This point shows how much progress the side have made that when he does lose the squad have the personnel to still win and win well. The result is in simple terms an absolute pearl. There is still however the task of killing the tie off at the Staithe and progressing to the quarter finals should not be taken for granted.

(Added 25/11/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 8 v 3 Melbourne Club.
Strange, strange evening. 5.30pm tables and balls ready, 5.45pm Walcott call off their game with the 'B' team. Disappointing. Still several of the team attended for a look and a knock. Penny for their thoughts? Hmmmm, and what did they see? They saw a strange performance. What they saw was one frame from two from Randles, Keith & Moosey. Two from two from Del and three from three for Alex. Truth of the match, lucky, unlucky and lucky again. Great result on paper, history will maybe see it differently in result terms but it was at best indifferent. The watching 'B' team must have looked on and thought our chances may come.. Is this who we have to beat? Certainly watching Randles missing with two on the black straight. Penal Crime. Moosey missing from dead situations. Keith playing well, unlucky in the first but questions on shot selections, no Daile Tailor and a shakey Del Gooch. Alex Davies, three from three the pick. Three consecutive shots in the last of the highest standard. Good result, shakey performance.
Other News: Randles has a new scarf thanks to "Porcha" after he borrowed hers and she developed head lice when he returned it..Ewwww! Never EVER lend Randles clothing...!

(Added 19/11/08) Coltishall Railway 6 v 5 Sutton Staithe 'A'
(Added 19/11/08) Feathers NW 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'B'

The 'B' once again produced a very good result in yet another difficult away fixture. Leading from the front Captain Mark Forrester kicked off and won both his games once again. The match balanced at 2v2 could have gone either way. However a strong middle order of Jim, Carl & Josh all won moving the score along to 5v2. Smelling blood the team rolled on to win 7v4. Josh Smith after a bad week last week bounced back winning three from three whilst Matt suffered losses in both his games. One from two from Karl & Jim on the night. The unbeaten run continues with home games to come it would be a brave man to bet against the side taking the title. The result took the team to top of the Division with a game in hand and they are now the only unbeaten side remaining in all the leagues.
Disaster for the 'A' team. A run of years without league defeat came to an end with a bump. Fielding a very strong side the team would have expected a decent result against a side first from bottom. Not to be though. Randles eight balled in the first and Alex losing the 2nd showed the situation was not comfortable. A win from Moosey brought things back followed by a super clearance from Del Gooch restored parity. Chances then came and went to take the lead and move on without success. On the night all the team have to take responsibility and one person cannot be singled out as playing well on the night. However, two from three for Moosey, two blanks from Scandles, one from one for Keith, one from two for Alex and an odd frame defeat for Rob. Del Gooch also one from two.

(Added 12/11/08) Buxton Crown 'B' 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'B'
(Added 12/11/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 7 v 4 Buxton Crown 'A'.

Big night. Both Staithe teams looking good for high League honours both faced probably the teams most likely to threaten the silverware. Difficult time. The 'A' team were jubilant in welcoming back from a Pool Holiday in France Alex Davis. Maybe the difference for the 'A' team on the night, winning two from three. Otherwise a fighting performance Chris the "scandles" crippled Randles maybe pick of the side, eight balling one frame and going close the other but winning. One from two also from Keith, Moosey and Del. Tight at 4v3, very tight. Then a little fight and a 7 v 4 win. Good result against probably the best opposition in Division 1.
'B' team. Beautiful. The Crown 'B' team certainly the biggest opposition league wise to come accross. Story of the night, 5 v 3 down, then some grit, determination and desire obviously kicked in. Three from three in the last frames maintained the 100% record. Mark Forrester, captain done a captains job. Three from three including winning two of the last three to keep it running. Captain Marvel! Aside from, everyone else contributed with one from two, Carl, Josh and Jim. Matt for the first time this season went missing and Josh after being the Champagne Charlie a short while ago was average. Reflection, super results for both teams in the picture of both leagues. Evident maybe more than ever is the collectiveness of both sides and without doubt for the 'B' team returning from 5 v 3 down to steal, fantastic. Talk now is of cup draws and Christmas Curries but between now and then results and continued focus, practice and resilence are needed for a happy Santa.

(Added 05/11/08) Black Swan 'A' 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'A'. Car talk prior to the match was 7 or 8 would be a good result and that turned out to be spot on. Awful table, has to be said. Both teams had players frustrated as the table influenced frame after frame. The team started slowly and found themselves 2v1 down. However, the middle order came through and the team rallied to 6v2 up. A fantastic result looked possible but the last three frames got split the wrong way and the result ended 7v4. On reflection a good result in the conditions. The numbers, Scandles and Moosey two from two with Daile, Keith & Del all taking one from two. Rob ended the match losing the 11th frame after playing some great shots and probably on another table would have eight balled. Next week Buxton Crown away, old rivals. Not for the weak that one.

(Added 29/10/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 6 v 1 Coltishall Railway.
(Added 29/10/08) Sutton Staithe 'B' 8 v 2 Vernon Arms.
New balls, new cloths and a night of expectations for both sides. The first home game for the 'B' team of the season and the first occasion both teams have been at home together. Early frames were believed to be critical, the difference between 7v5 and 6v6 clearly large for all four teams present. Chris Randles kicked off for the 'A' team, playing first after his atrocious performance last week. He had obviously recognised this and threw in a very solid performance to take the first frame and get the side off and running, a victory from Moosey Millward in the second meant the 'A' team led 8 v 5.
The 'B' team elected to kick off with captain Mark Forrester, a sensible decision. After playing some cracking shots he finally lost potting a fantastic black only to go in off, rude luck. People would have been forgiven for thinking this could prove to be a turning point as the team now came under pressure. How would they react? The reaction was electric! Jim & Matt put in solid performances and Carl managed to remain standing to win two from two despite being obviously rather drunk! Then of course you have the man of the night. Josh Smith, full ball snooked on the black in a crucial frame. Nominates the middle, white off cushion, crowd holds their breath. Surely he must hit it or he is finished. Bang! Black in the middle crowd goes wild. Enjoying his home table he comes back for his second frame and 8 balls! Man of the match and man of the night well secured. The 11th game was not played which was sad as Lee La 'Ronaldo' Page was due to make his debut after agreeing personal terms. Tracksuit off and ready to rumble...they other guy went home. Damn! The team cruise now into the next round and must be asking themselves, who exactly do we fear?
Meanwhile the 'A' team went about their work also, running out comfortably 6 v 1 winners in the finish. Daile Tailor playing only one frame this week made a very notable clearance whilst Rob won his first frame for the team, at a difficult time in the match also. Keith Clouting lost his frame and Del Gooch cracked one from two. Two from two for Moosey and one from one from the Scandles. The overview of the match, a very good result against a very good side. Next round thoughts? One of them must be a desire to miss the 'B' in the draw as they seem to have vicious teeth!! Beautiful.

(Added 26/10/08) Vernon Arms 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'B'. The Vernon Arms running 3rd in Division 1 vs an unbeaten side in Division 3, a fair match ahead. Indeed it was, Mark Forrester showed his experience and made the difference winning three from three frames to build a very very good away win. One from two for Carl, Jim & Matt made up the scraps. The side must now look to the home leg with confidence and possibly the hard work has already been achieved?

(Added 22/10/08) Coltishall Railway 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'A'. Cup 1st Rounds can always be interesting. The Staithe started well and once again found themselves with a decent lead, 4 v 2. However, once again all through the team performances were not memorable. Two frames from two the highlight from Keith Clouting, Moosey Millward took two from three. Del one from two. Chris Randles despite his maybe his worst effort for the team and six attempts at a black managed to win one from one. Daile Tailor for the second week disappointed losing both frames. Rob made his debut but like all first game players for this team, he lost! I suppose consolation is the team return to the Stathe ahead. Second week on the trot summary, must improve! Moment of the night has to be Steve Mayer force feeding a very hungry pub dog a cheese & onion!!

(Added 15/10/08) Sutton Staithe 'A' 7 v 4 White Swan. A stop start performance for the team in general. Being 6 v 1 up the team would have hoped to a nail a big result down but losing three frames on the bounce left the match at 6 v 4. Moosey Millward won the 11th frame to make the score 7v4 which reads much better than a possible 6v5. One frame from two for Del, Chris, Daile and Keith with Moosey weighing in three from three for the second week. Coltishall Railway wait next week in the 1st round, 1st Leg of the Cup. No surprises are expected.

(Added 15/10/08) Alby Horseshoes 'A' 3 v 8 Sutton Staithe 'B'. Sutton travelled to Alby Horshoes on the back of a fantastic start to the season with high hopes. Things did not begin according to plan losing the first the frame. Realising that more was required the side reacted to win the next eight frames. Josh Smith & Matt Woolston were unable to win the last two frames resulting in an 8 v 3 win, another great result in terms of being away. The remaining one hundred percent records disappeared although Jim Woolston remains unbeaten in his first frames, keeping alive a player of the year perfect season. Next week sees Cup 1st Round ties and the side have a hugely interesting tie against division 1 Vernon Arms. This match will certainly show how much progress the side have made and will be far from easy.

(Added 08/10/08) Fishing Boat 'A' 3 v 8 Sutton Staithe 'A'. The Fishing Boat topping the table and having made two impressive signings made a recipe for probably a match between the top two teams in the league. The Staithe having not hit form in their first two matches quickly asserted themselves on the match racing to a 6 v 1 lead. The Fishing Boat fought back to 6 v 3 but two final frames from Moosey and Keith Clouting ensured a fantastic result. Three frames from three marked a return to form for Moosey whilst Keith Clouting and Chris Randles won two from two with the odd frame coming from Del Gooch. On the night all contributed and the side will take from this the knowledge that a great result for the campaign has been achieved.

(Added 01/10/08) Jolly Farmers 'B' 2 v 9 Sutton Staithe 'B'. The fantastic start to the season continued as the side travelled away for the second time. After a close first half of the match at 3 v 2 the side moved up a gear and won the next six frames to cement the teams place at the top of the table. Good performances from all once again with Carl Allen winning three from three to continue his 100% start to the season, Matt Woolston also remains 100%. Two frames from two also for skipper Mark Forrester. Next travel is to Alby followed by an interesting cup 1st round against the Vernon Arms which should prove to be a big test.

(Added 25/09/08) Black Swan 'B' 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe 'A'. A disappointing performance all round. Two lost frames from Moosey, unusual. Two from three from Chris Randles probably the teams best player on the night. One frame from two for Keith Clouting and Daile Taylor. Also a reasonable two from two for Del Gooch. Next week sees the side travel to the Fishing Boat who sit top of the table. Interesting match without a doubt.

(Added 17/09/08) Lighthouse 'B' 1 v 10 Sutton Staithe 'B'. The first outing of the new team found the side at Walcott Lighthouse. Well.... The time and effort put in by the players over the summer and in the pre-season friendlies paid off, and paid off big time. The side was expected to win but to crush 10 v 1 was a fantastic start. Everyone produced the goods with the only defeat coming in the 11th frame from Mark Forrester. Josh Smith however in his first two league frames must be pleased with a perfect start. Promotion must now look a certainty with the strength of the squad with Lee Le Page not featuring but available in the future when required.

(Added 17/09/08) Vernon Arms 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe 'A'. The season started with a visit to the Vernon Arms, a well organised and experienced team. A 7v4 win was probably a fair result on the evening as several of the team put in displays below their usual standard. On the night two frames from two for Daile Taylor gave him the start he was looking for, whilst Del Gooch, Keith Clouting and Chris Randles all turned in one frame two. Moosey Millward claimed two wins from three frames. A satisfactory start.

SEASON 2008/09 COMMENCES.

(Added 30/07/08) Sutton Staithe Hotel 9 v 2 Black Swan. The side secured a comfortable summer league win with a good home display against a Black Swan side who can always be dangerous on their night. One frame from two for both Damion Millward and Chris Randles whilst Del Gooch weighed in with an impressive three out of three which saw him be this summers highest stat player. Two frames from two also for Matthew Holgate and Mark Forrester. An impressive summer once again without a defeat, the current run of not losing a league game summer or winter is now extended well over three years!

(Added 24/07/08) Fishing Boat 'B' 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe Hotel. Taking a 5 v 1 lead the side never really struggled. Highlight of the night was a guest appearance of Sol Roberts who obliged by winning two from two. A full squad played with Daile Taylor winning one from two, Mark Forrester & Damion Millward played one frame and lost. Chris Randles played one frame and won. Winning one frame from two also were Keith Clouting & Del Gooch.

(Added 16/07/08) Sutton Staithe Hotel 10 v 1 Orchard Gardens 'A'. A near perfect performance from the side. Two frames from two for Mark Forrester, Damion Millward and Matthew Holgate. Three frames from three keeps Del Gooch top of the averages whilst Chris Randles managed to blot the copy book with a wild black potted in totally the wrong bag. Doh!

(Added 02/07/08) Fishing Boat 'A' 3 v 8 Sutton Staithe Hotel. A potentially difficult game away at the Fishing Boat who are without question one of the best young sides in the league. Daile Tailor played his first games in a couple of years and produced two wins. The team started very well and found themselves 6 v 0 up. One frame from two from both Chris Randles and Mark Forrester and two from three from Damion Millward again. Del Gooch once again showed his value weighing in with two from two. Good result.

(Added 25/06/08) Sutton Staithe Hotel 7 v 4 NW Sports Centre. With three players out the Staithe fielded a much changed side. Del Gooch made his first appearance of the season and won both his frames confidently. Chris Randles also produced two from two as did Matthew Holgate. James Woolston made his first appearance and despite losing both his frames played well. Damion Millward won one frame from three, losing the last two frames and costing the team what would have been another great result. However the win keeps the team moving towards the league title.

(Added 18/06/08) Orchard Gardens 'B' 3 v 8 Sutton Staithe Hotel. Without doubt a difficult challenge. The Orchard being Division one and Cup winners and the only team to have beaten the Staithe in over three years. Del Gooch, Matthew Holgate & Daile Tailor were unavailable so Steve "The Duck" made a debut to help the cause. Despite Steve losing both his games producing a good effort a fantastic result was achieved. Two frames from two including a super black in his second for Keith Clouting. Damion Millward won three from three for the second consecutiver week. Chris Randles improved with two from two and Mark Forrester won one from his two frames. A great nights work which should set the squad up to win this years Summer League.

(Added 13/06/08) Sutton Staithe Hotel 7 v 4 Kings Arms NW. The team began their Summer League campaign with a win, although not particularly convincingly. Three frames from three from Damion Millward, two from two for Keith Clouting, and one from two from both Mark Forrester and Matthew Holgate collected the vistory.

(Added 20/05/08) Orchard Gardens 'A' 6 v 3 Sutton Staithe Hotel. The first defeat for the team in nearly three years in what was a decent Challenge Cup Final against the winners of Division 1. The team never really performed and could be considered unlucky in a number of the frames. However, the result on reflection was probably correct. On a brighter note Damion Millward won the singles tournament and Division 2 player of the year. Next season sees the team in Division 1 and they will be looking to do well and hopefully add to the now three years unbeaten run in league competition.

(Added 08/05/08) Finals Night 2008 is looming next Tuesday & Wednesday. The team will be represented in the Semi-Finals of the singles by Del Gooch & Damion Millward. The team will be looking to complete another perfect season with a win in the Challenge Cup Final against the Orchard Gardens, winners of Division 1. The team representing the Staithe will be Mark Forrester, Damion Millward, Del Gooch, Keith Clouting and Chris Randles with Alex Davis still in France. The side is also hopeful of a fair amount of travelling support to cheer the team along.

(Added 03/04/08) Fishing Boat 'A' 5 v 6 Staithe - Cup Semi 2nd Leg - The return leg of the semi-final started well for the Staithe and the team found themselves through to the final with the score at 4v2. With the rest of the games decided to be played the Staithe then attempted to committ suicide. The next three frames were lost and the Staithe found themselves 5v4 down and the two and three quarter year unbeaten run in grave danger. The final two frames were won by Chris Randles and Damion Millward to save the day. Del Gooch made his debut for the Staithe and looks to be a very good acquisition to the team. Del however lost his first two frames for the side. Damion Millward won three from three frames again, Chris Randles won both his frames, Keith Clouting won one from two and Mark Forrester who had one of his worsts nights lost both his games. The final will be against Division 1 winners the Orchard Gardens 'B'. A better performance will be needed to complete the league and cup double.

(Added 27/03/08) Staithe 8 v 3 Fishing Boat 'A' - Cup Semi 1st Leg - Always a tough match the Staithe started well although with good fortune and found themselves 3v0 up. Then however, losses from Chris Randles and Craig Alexander put the team back to 3v2 up. Sensing their chances had greatly improved the Fishing Boat had a renewed sense of believe. However, a great frame from Damion Millward kept the Staithe heading in the right direction only for Keith Clouting to be unfortunate leaving the score poised at 4v3. Captain Mark Forrester stood up to the plate followed by Matthew Holgate and Chris Randles. A final frame win after a long grind from Moosey Millward saw a final result of 8v3. On paper a fine result and one that will leave the Fishing Boat almost requiring a miracle to prevent the Staithe progressing to the final in May.

(Added 19/03/08) Jolly Farmers 'A' 3 v 8 Staithe. The league agenda now being virtually complete the Staithe travelled to Swanton Abbot on what was slightly a dull fixture. However, the result was obtained. Three wins from three for Alex Davis, two from two for Damion Millward and one from two from Keith Clouting, Craig Alexander and Chris Randles. Cup semi-finals next week and back to bigger business.

(Added 12/03/08) Lighthouse 'B' 3 v 8 Staithe. The league season is winding down with the honours already taken. Three wins from three for Damion Millward, two from two for Mark Forrester and Keith Clouting. The down side to the night Chris Randles lost his 100% record against opposition he would certainly have expected to defeat. Without question it was no help that the side were one player short. Matthew Holgate stepped in to play a frame in the second half but all concerned were exceptionally not happy to have to conceed a frame, which the team has never done before. Next week Jolly Farmers away.

(Added 05/03/08) Staithe 10 v 1 Black Lion. The second game in two days saw the Staithe comfortably win convincingly again. No drama and no fuss. Two frames from two from Keith Clouting once again and one win from his one frame from Damion Millward. Craig Alexander returning to the side also won twice and captain Mark Forrester also won both his frames. Scandles Randles continued his run of being unbeaten winning twice to keep the dream alive. The only casualty on the evening Alex Davis who won one of his two frames, certainly can be forgiven on his recent performances. Three away games remain for the side and with concentration another unbeaten season could certainly be achieved. Attention will also remain for the Randles pilgrimage towards a perfect league season. Next stop Walcott Lighthouse. Bring it on.

(Added 04/03/08) Staithe 10 v 1 Buxton Crown 'A'. The long awaited re-arranged fixture between 1st & 2nd in the league finally came to be. After last weeks performance many would have been forgiven for believing a shock could be on the cards. Oh no, what a legendary performance from all. Too much drama to report it all. Alex Davis kicked the side off with a fantastic 1st frame win which he later backed up with another cracking frame. Keith Clouting won both his frames in good style as did Damion Millward. Chris Randles...still remains 100% in the league but was once again slightly fortunate to put it mildly. Captain Mark Forrester won two from three, losing the final frame but by then the job was well and truely done. Certainly on the night the best the side have played this year and comments from notorious pool critic Paul Talbot summed it up..."You get nothing at the Staithe but a good value steak."

(Added 27/02/08) Sutton Staithe Hotel have drawn the Fishing Boat 'A' in the Semi Finals of the Challenge Cup. The Boat currently 5th in Division 1 will prove interesting opposition. The first leg is at Sutton on the 25th March.

(Added 27/02/08) Fishing Boat 'B' 5 v 6 Sutton Staithe Hotel. Travelling to the team bottom of the League few would have suggested the result. In summary the worst performance of the season from the side collectively. Individually, Mark Forrester won two from two as did Chris Randles. Moosey Millward managed two wins from three including the decider whilst both Keith Clouting and Craig Alexander lost both their frames. The only plus point is any other side had played this bad they would certainly have lost. The two and half year unbeaten run lives on but improvement will be required.

(Added 19/02/08) Staithe 7 v 4 Black Swan. The Staithe progressed to the last four of the Cup, once again flattered by the result. The Black, a good side knew they had to come and win and as in the previous week shew the Staithe they could do so. After a first frame win from Alex Davis it looked like no drama. At 4 v 4 it looked more like a drama. Staithe trying to continue a 2 1/2 year unbeaten run did not show why this was the case. Short and simple. Craig Alexander, youngest player won two from two and certainly in his 2nd frame was good. Older more experienced boys, not so good. No other player could win two from two frames. The opposition will become stronger and the score flattered the Staithe. The details. Craig Alexander two wins from two, Keith Clouting one from two, Alex Davis one from two, Mark Forrester one from two, Scandes can't play in the cup Randles one from two, Moosey Millward one from one. Simple as. Maybe the best squad in this league for fifteen years..Problem...Questions to be answered, and they will be asked by other sides along the way. Staithe through to the last four, grrrrrrrr.

(Added 13/02/08) Black Swan 4 v 7 Staithe. As predicted a huge battle. Losing the first frame the Staithe were under pressure from the beginning. Several times the Staithe replied to bring the game back level and several times they could not get in front. At 3-2 down things looked in the balance. A win from Damion Millward levelled once more only for Chris Randles to lose again. At 4v3 down Steve Beales missed a golden opportunity to really pile the pressure on. It was not to be though and from that point the Staithe improved and won the last four frames of the match. Another good performance from Alex Davis winning two from two along with Damion Millward, also two from two. Mark Forrester and Keith Clouting won one from two but it must be noted that Keith won the tenth frame which was crucial. Craig Alexander won his frame and looked largely more confident in a tense match. Chris Randles lost both his frames in his worst performance of the season, largely contributing to the team struggling on the night. However, the result is without question a fantastic one and sets up the Staithe for the return leg in perfect position to progress to the last four of the competition.

(Added 09/02/08) With the end of season games approaching its business time for the Staithe. Tuesday sees the team travel to Division 1 Black Swan 'A' in the 1st Round of the Cup Quarter Finals. The whole squad is available but looks likely to be Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester, Chris Randles, Damion Millward, Craig Alexander and Alex Davis who will travel.

(Added 30/01/08) NW Sports Centre 4 v 7 Sutton Staithe. The Staithe recorded their 10th straight league win after a battling performance. Losing the first two frames Alex Davis got the team off to a start and from then on it never really looked back. Another two good frames from Chris Randles maintained his unlikely 100% league run, Alex Davis also weighed in another two victories. Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester & Craig Alexander all won one frame from two while Moosey Millward lost the only frame he played on the night.

(Added 23/1/08) Staithe 10 v 1 Orchard Gardens. Craig Alexander made his debut for the Staithe and marked it well with two wins from three frames which will no doubt boost confidence for the future. Two frames came from all the rest of the team, Chris Randles, Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester and Alex Davies. Two good clearances were made from both Mark Forrester & Alex Davis on the night in another very good result which probably has just about secured promotion.

(Added 9/1/08) The first match of the New Year went well for the Staithe. After losing the first frame the side went on to win the 9 of the next 10, running out 9-2 winners against a fair Kings Arms side. Two frames from Moosey Millward, Chris Randles & Alex Davis assisted with one frame from Mark Forrester, Keith Clouting and playing his first game this season Matthew Holgate.

(Added 2/1/08) Sutton Staithe will play the Black Swan 'A' (Div 1) in the Quarter Finals of the Challenge Cup. First leg away at the Black Swan. A tough draw but the team will be hopeful of progressing.

(Added 1/1/08) Sutton Staithe completed 2007 without defeat, a fine achievement and a good effort from all concerned.

(Added 19/12/07) Coltishall Railway 4 v 7 Staithe - The Staithe progressed comfortably into the last eight with a solid performance. Needing only five frames the Staithe won the first four to put the tie well beyond the reach of last years winners. At 5 v 1 the job was complete. The remaining frames were played out and the Staithe ended winners 7 v 4. The team showed good character in getting the job done and all players contributed with no-one standing out as exceptional on the night. One frame from two for Randles, Moosey Millward and Mark Forrester. Two from two from Dave Edwards and two from three for Keith Clouting. It would be fair to believe that none of the remaining teams will be wishing to draw the Staithe.

(Added 14/12/07) Sutton Staithe is pleased to have signed Craig Alexander to further strengthen the squad. Craig is eighteen years old and it is hoped that he will develop into a exceptional player and addition to the team. He will be available from the 1st January 2008.

(Added 11/12/07) Staithe 7 v 4 Coltishall Railway - The visit of the current Challenge Cup Champions was always going to be a tight and difficult test. The visitors started well and after the first four frames were positioned well at 3v1 up. The visitors missed a golden opportunity to increase the lead with a clearance from the break and from that point forward the home team grew in confidence and applied the grip. The Staithe went on to win the next six frames. Six frames where players in the team shew not only their class but their resolve. A fantastic trebled! black from Keith Clouting and a great black from Mark Forrester complimented two frames from two from Moosey Millward and another good contribution from Dave Edwards winning two from three frames. The two wins from Dave at highly crucial junctions in the match. Chris Randles lost his 100% record for the season but can cling to the fact he is unbeaten in the league. Time ran out for him! Next weeks away leg looks altogether a better prospect than at 9.30pm today with the Railway needing to beat the Staithe 8v3 to progress. Not going to happen. Good fight shown by all, last eight beckons and a threat team all but doomed.

(Added 5/12/07) Staithe 10 v 1 Jolly Farmers 'A' - Quite simply a tremendous performance from the team in quick time. Two frames from Keith Clouting and Damion Millward. Two frames kept Chris 'Lucky' Randles 100% record running and a super performance from Dave Edwards with three great hits subbing in for a missing Alex Davies. Mark 'Skipper' Forrester was the only frame casualty in what the whole team must review as a fantastic performance against a side third in the league. Next week sees the visit of Coltishall Railway current cup holders and on tonights performance you have to fear for their chances.

(Added 27/11/07) Staithe 7 v 4 Lighthouse 'B' - The Lighthouse proved worthy opponents in a tough match. Two frames from Mark Forrester from three and one win for Keith Clouting, Damion Millward and Alex Davies. Unusually at home the Staithe missed several opportunities in a number of frames. Mention must be made of Foggy on his return winning both his frames which were welcomed on a difficult night for the side.

(Added 21/11/07) Black Lion 2 v 9 Staithe - A difficult away match was faced against a good Black Lion side. The Staithe prevailed however with two wins from Keith Clouting, Damion Millward and Chris Randles who still continues to be the only player with a 100% record left. This was however after his best efforts to lose in a unconvincing display. Mark Forrester won one frame and lost one to a cracking performance from "Liz", the Lion captain and winner of their two frames. Alex "Alexis" Davies won two frames from three in another very reasonable performance.

(Added 14/11/07) Staithe 10 v 1 Fishing Boat 'B' - Another good team performance from the side with two frames from Keith Clouting, Damion Millward and Alex Davis. Chris Randles continued what is now a good unbeaten run of 100% with another three winning frames. Only casualty of the evening was one loss from Mark. More testing matches are ahead with next weeks visit to Buxton who are second in the league. Staithe expected to be unchanged for the tie.

(Added 07/11/07) Black Swan 'B' 5 v 6 Staithe (Cup 1st Round/2nd Leg) The Staithe progressed into the second round after playing a team wishing to make amends for the 11 v 0 thrashing in the first leg. As expected the table was far from perfect and the match proved a difficult task. Two frames from three for Mark Forrester and one each from Keith, Alex, Damion and Foggy secured victory. On the night Mark played exceptionally well as did Alex and Foggy won a crucial frame at 5 v 4 to ensure there would be no drama.

(Added 31/10/07) Staithe 11 v 0 Black Swan 'B' (Cup 1st Round/1st Leg) Without doubt one of the most comprehensive performances of recent years from the Staithe who collectively blasted away the Black Swan. Two frames were taken from Keith, Mark, Damion, Alex and Randles with Foggy winning the 11th. Special mention must be made of Chris Randles and Mark Forrester who both gave superb displays at vital times to destroy a side, 5th in Division one and boasting several good players. The result means the second leg is almost a formality and the Staithe cup campaign is very much off and running!

(Added 24/10/07) Railway "B" 4 v 7 Staithe. Possibly the biggest challenge of the season so far against a side keen to take points from the match. Keith Clouting & Damion Millward lost the first two frames which put the side under pressure and tested the resolve. However the team raised the tempo and two fine performances from Alex Davies changed fortunes around. In from the wilderness Chris Randles confidently won three frames out of three to continue his 100% record for the season.

(Added 20/10/07)The Staithe continued a fantastic start to the season with a 8 v 3 win against North Walsham Sports Centre. Keith Clouting lost his first frame of the season and John Fogg lost twice with a very poor performance. Mark Forrester & Damion Millward maintained their 100% start to season. The side likely to travel on Tuesday to Coltishall Railway looks like Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester, Alex Davies, Damion Millward and recalled from the wilderness Chris Randles.

(Added 12/10/07)The game against the Sports Centre at home looks likely to be played on Wednesday 17th October and not Tuesday 16th October. The starting side is likely to be Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester, Alex Davis, Damion Millward and John Fogg who will replace Chris Randles as the team can only put up with him on a fortnightly basis.

(Added 10/10/07)Following the cancellation of the first home game against the Crown last week the Staithe travelled away for a second time to the Orchard Gardens. A tough night was expected after the Orchard won 10v1 the week before. However, the team of Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester, Alex Davis, Damion Millward and back from the wilderness Chris Randles triumphed comfortably with a 10v1 win. Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester & Damion Millward all maintained their 100% start to the season. Alex was unlucky to be the only player to lose on the night whilst Chris Randles also contributed with a classy two wins.

(Added 28/9/07) The team expected to play The Old Crown in the first home game of the season is expected to be unchanged. Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester, Alex Davies, John Fogg & Damion Millward with Chris Randles be rested after a bout of gimping.

(Added 26/9/07) Sutton Staithe traveled away for the first match of the season to the Kings Arms North Walsham with high levels of confidence and a strong side. The team proved the faith well founded and ran out 10-1 winners on the night. Two frames from Keith Clouting, Mark Forrester and Damion Millward were fatal to the home team. Alex Davies debuted with three frames and proved the faith that he is a huge acquistion to the side with three wins in three frames whilst Foggy was the only player to drop a frame. Confidence in the future must surely be exceptionally high as the depth of the side was shown. A super start to the season where all contributed with the absence of Chris Randles, showed that strength in depth is certainly present.

(Added 22/9/07) Sutton Staithe will travel away to the Kings Arms 'B' in North Walsham for the first game of the season on Tuesday 25th September.

The team have also been drawn against the Black Swan 'B', North Walsham in the preliminary round of this years cup events, 1st round on the 30th October 2007.
